What do you think of when you think of a Walt Disney World vacation? Visiting the attractions? Watching the fireworks or a parade? Maybe even hitting a hotel pool? It is all of those things. It is also a lot of standing and walking sometimes making me so tired that I feel like I need a vacation after my vacation when I get home! Fortunately, there are places to rejuvenate without ever leaving Walt Disney World Resort.
I first discovered the spas around Walt Disney World a number of years ago when I was there on a business trip. Not only was I tired from running a conference, but also from running around the parks. There are numerous spa service locations on property including La Vida Health Club at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, Mandara Spa at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel, Muscles & Bustles Health Club at Disney’s Boardwalk Villas, Olympiad Fitness Center at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Senses Spa a Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Ship Shape Massage Salon Fitness at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Sturdy Branches Health Club at The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Zahanati Massage & Fitness Center at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and the one I chose for my most recent visit, Senses Spa at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa since that was where I was staying.
I had not visited this location before and looking at the resort map, quickly realized that the spa was not in the main building and was going to be a little bit of a trek from my room. I was staying clear at the north end of the Grand Floridian near the Convention Center while the spa is next to The Villas, which are about as far south as you can get and still be at the Grand Floridian Resort. Fortunately, it was a glorious, sunny day and walking by the pool area and beach area added to my relaxation.
I checked in and was quickly escorted to the locker room to change into a robe and sandals. The relaxation room was exactly what you’d expect in a higher end spa. There were comfy chairs, magazines to read, and flavored waters and light snacks. I also explored the locker room and again, it was exactly what I expected with private showers with provided toiletries and plenty of space throughout.
My massage was heavenly, of course. It was 80-minutes of removing stress and tired muscles. I’m sure I could have stayed there all day.
After my massage, I took a little time to explore the sauna and hot tub area. It was really nice. The chairs next to the hot tub were a great place to enjoy the steam without getting too warm and simply rest now that I was so relaxed.
For me, a visit to one of the WDW Spas is one of the items necessary to make my vacation complete. I love, love, love the attractions, but I also love this little bit of time to myself where I can relax and get away from it all and simply enjoy doing nothing for a little while.
