Making a Midweek Birthday Magical

As happens to all of us, our son’s birthday fell on a Wednesday this year. Most years, I hadn’t worried about it much, but this year was his Golden Birthday, the one where he turned the same age as his birthdate (he turned 11 on the 11th) so I wanted to do something a little special on the actual day. We already had a party planned for the weekend, so the special something couldn’t cost an arm and a leg, either. Here were a few of our surprises.

Our front yard announced to the world (or at least those who drove by) that it was our son's birthday. We hired www.phoenixstorks.com to do ours. They came in the middle of the night so the surprise was ready when he woke up.

Even though the party was being held elsewhere on a different day, I purchased some inexpensive streamers and signs to decorate the house. This was the door to our laundry room so he would have to walk through it to enter/exit the house that day.

Balloons always make things festive and aren't usually pricey. We added a couple of balloon bouquets to our decorations. These were mylar so they are still up a week later! This way, they could do double duty for the party if needed.

Most boys aren't real big on flowers so we did a candy bouquet instead. An old flower vase, some Styrofoam, bamboo skewers, cellophane paper, and candy and voila! we had a bouquet.
