Family Fun at SeaWorld – Dining with Shamu®

SeaWorld San Diego - Dining with ShamuMy son loves animals. Well, frankly, so do I, so whenever we have the opportunity to do something a little extra, we try to take it. On a recent trip to SeaWorld San Diego, that meant Dining with Shamu®.

SeaWorld San Diego - Dining with ShamuBecause it fit better in our day, I chose Breakfast with Shamu®, which was at 10am. We arrived around 9:45am and watched the killer whales through an underwater viewing window. Once check in opened, a park photographer took our photo and then we were escorted to our table.

After our server took our drink order, we headed to the buffet for breakfast. There was fingerling potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, a couple different kinds of quiche, breakfast breads and bagels, fresh fruit, and more. It was mainly typical breakfast items, but there was a good selection so everyone was able to find something they liked.

SeaWorld San Diego - Dining with ShamuAfter everyone had gotten their food, it was time for the reason we were all there, to see the killer whales in action! The trainers told us some facts about the whales as well as asked the whales to perform. Several times, the whales slid onto a platform out of the water so that all that was separating us were some acrylic panels. Being that close, one could really see how big they are! Of course, it was also fun watching the whales do leaps and listening to the whales “talk.”

SeaWorld San Diego - Dining with ShamuI loved this, but more importantly, I know my son loved this. It’s not easy to keep his attention over a long period of time, but he watched those whales all the way through. At the table next to us, there was a toddler who was so excited. He was jumping up and down and squealing. All I could think was, this is what this is all about. These kids (and parents) were developing memories to last a lifetime. Thanks, Shamu®!
